Papua New Guinea Kainantu
Papua New Guinea’s high-altitude regions are well known for producing sweet and remarkably smooth coffees, and this lot from the Colbran family in the Eastern Highlands carries on that tradition with a darker roast twist. A hand-picked lot at the family farm, this coffee delivers a rich, chocolatey, approachable profile that shines as a daily drinker or a cup to share with family.
Colbran Coffeelands has been a cornerstone of coffee in Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highlands since the 1960s. Founded by Ben Colbran, the farm began as a small venture in vegetables and fruit before expanding into coffee. Over time Colbran Coffeelands grew into one of PNG’s most notable estates, with Ben’s son, Nicol, taking on management and eventually purchasing the farm back in 1997. Today, the estate spans more than 220 hectares of coffee trees and also partners with neighboring farmers, providing processing and marketing support that helps strengthen the entire Goroka coffee community.
Tasting Notes
Expect a full-bodied brew with notes of dark chocolate, caramel sauce and clove; underscored by toasted graham cracker and black cherry. It’s creamy, bold, and reminds us of turtle brownies during the brew. Papua New Guinea Kainantu would make an excellent coffee base for cream and syrup additions for fall lattes!
